I am running the following courses in Swansea @ SWANSEA PRNT WORKSHOP
www.swanseaprintworkshop.org
and also a course in march at the regional print centre in wrexham see the bottem of the page for details:::

here's the blurb for SPW!:

Collagraph workshop Kara Seaman
Two evening workshops: Mondays 8th and 15th February 6.30-9.30pm
Introductory Level: 8 places available
Collagraph enables artists to produce a print from a flat collage they have created
normally by using materials such as papers, glue gun glue, acrylic medium, texture
paste and similar such materials.
This is an intaglio process meaning the print is taken from the lines within the surface of
the plate not from the top surface, thus leading to very detailed prints; it can be a very
evocative form of printmaking.
On the first day participants will concentrate on making their plates and on the second
day participants will print up either a small edition or some experimental prints from their
plates.
Full member: £35 Ordinary member: £40 Non member: £50

Monotype Kara Seaman
One day course: Sunday 7th March 10.30 - 3.30pm
Introductory level: 8 places available
Monotypes are one of the most versatile ways of making prints without the need for
elaborate block making. It is a very enjoyable and open introduction to the many ways
of using inks, papers and presses. A whole collection of ‘found’ objects can be printed
using this technique. The found materials need to be reasonably flat and soft, eg
leaves, lace, feathers, fabrics, threads etc. [NO METAL OBJECTS]. Positive and
negative images can be made using the offset process and direct drawing onto the back
of the offset paper produces strong colourful prints.
Full Member: £25 Ordinary member: £30 Non-member: £40

Writing and Screenprinting workshop
Sarah Jackman and Kara Seaman
2 day weekend workshop: Saturday/ Sunday 30th and 31st January
10.30 - 3.30pm Introductory level: 8 places available
The aim of the workshop is to produce a small edition of integrated text with image.
Participants will be encouraged to produce a descriptive passage alongside preparatory
images gradually building a close relationship between the two.
There will be the opportunity to produce either a small edition of screenprints or
individual prints with techniques such as chine colle. These will be printed alongside the
piece of text written by the participant. This workshop would suit people who are
beginners and for people who are exploring the possibility of creating a larger text and
image project.
Full member: £65 Ordinary member: £70 Non-member: £80

Screen Printing Kara Seaman
Two day weekend introductory workshop:
Saturday/ Sunday 20th and 21st March 10.30am - 3.30pm 8 places
available
This process is one of the most popular printmaking processes because of wide range
of approaches it supports – do you like to work directly with drawing ? would you prefer
to work with a photographic starting point ? Are you more at home with cutting and
shaping ?
This workshop provides the introduction to the main methods of using these starting
points and how they can be integrated within one print.
Bring along an image you would like to work with – no larger than A4, black and white
with strong contrast printed onto copy or ink jet paper.
A simple demonstration of how to prepare images using Photoshop techniques will be
given and you can also bring along an image on a memory/USB stick
Full member:£35 Ordinary member:£40 Non-member:£50

Photo-etch intaglio plate making Kara Seaman
2 evening workshops: Wednesdays 10th and 17th March 6.30-9.30pm
Introductory level: 8 places available
This is a printmaking process which transfers a photographic image onto a metal
surface allowing it to be inked up and printed as if it were an etched plate. With this
particular method there is no need to etch the plate in acid (although this can be done)
as it is etched into the plastic film used in the process. It is a very exciting method to
using photographic or drawn images, text or a mixture of all on a single plate and can
be printed in different colours when finished.
You will need to bring along an image printed onto acetate/transparent material to the
size of A5 which is the size of the metal plate.
Your image can be developed using collage/ drawing / photographs / text and then
scanned and printed out on transparent material on an inkjet printer [black and white
only] or can be put through a good photocopier
Basic Photoshop techniques will also be covered on the course allowing people to
create an image at home in the future.
Full member: £35 Ordinary member: £40 Non-member: £50

Cyanotype Kara Seaman
Two day weekend introductory workshop:
Saturday/ Sunday 17th and 18th April 10.30am - 3.30pm 6 places available
The Cyanotype process is one of the first photographic processes developed over one
hundred and fifty years ago, which produces a characteristic blue print onto different
surfaces, such as papers and natural fabrics.
This workshop provides an introduction to the techniques, using a wide range of
images and sources.
Participants will need to bring with them small photographic images converted to
‘negative’ and printed onto acetate (6x4”) - most photocopy places will do this for you,
and a range of flat objects, such as lace, feathers, or anything with interesting textures
or shapes
During the workshop there will also be a demonstration of useful techniques in
Photoshop for converting images into the appropriate forms.
Full member: £40 Ordinary member: £45 Non-member: £50
